Mitchell County School Districts: 1,748 African American students were enrolled in 2022-23 school year

There were 1,748 African American students enrolled in Mitchell County school districts in the 2022-23 school year, 2.7% more than the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Data showed that Mitchell County school districts welcomed 2,524 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 69.3% of the student body to be the most represented ethnicity in the county's school districts.

The main offices of all school districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Mitchell County.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 16:1. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
