Georgia Southern softball notched a pair of wins on Friday, opening up the FSU Dugout Club Classic with a 7-3 win over Colgate and a 2-1 eight-inning win over UMass in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Eagles (9-8) will continue action in the Classic on Saturday, taking on UMass at 10 a.m. and then facing host and No. 5-ranked Florida State at 12:15 p.m.

GAME ONE: Georgia Southern 7, Colgate 3

The Eagles spotted Colgate (6-8) two runs in the top of the third inning, then plated five runs of their own - keyed by an RBI single by Janai Conklin and a two-run double by Dejah Mills.

Colgate got a run back in the top of the fourth, but Conklin and Mills each had RBIs in the sixth for the final 7-3 victory.

Bailey Holland (3-4) got the complete-game victory in the circle, giving up 10 hits and three runs in seven innings of work, walking one while striking out five. Bailey Misken (4-3) took the loss for Colgate, giving up 12 hits and seven runs in 5 2/3 innings of work, walking one and striking out four.

Mills went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Eagles at the plate, while Conklin went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

GAME TWO: Georgia Southern 2, UMass 1 (8 inn.)

Morgan Kendrick hurled a five-hitter, striking out 13 batters for a second straight start, and the Eagles plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to earn a 2-1 victory over UMass.

UMass (3-7) struck first in the contest, getting a two-out RBI double from Bella Pantoja for the early 1-0 lead.

The Eagles tied things up in the bottom of the sixth inning as Faith Barth led off the inning with a double, then scored on an error, tying the game at 1-all.

Kendrick worked around leadoff walks in both the seventh and eighth innings, keeping the score tied at 1-all. In the bottom of the eighth, Barth reached on a one-out triple, then came home as Emma Davis' ball to left field was misplayed by the Minutewomen's Jules Shields.

Kendrick improved to 4-0 on the season with the victory, giving up just the lone run and walking three while striking out 13. Julianne Bolton (1-4) was the hard-luck loser for the Minutewomen in the circle, giving up just four hits and two unearned runs in 7 1/3 innings of work, walking one and striking out five.

Barth went 2-for-4 for the Eagles with a double, a triple and scoring both runs in the game.
