On Tuesday, Wesleyan College teamed with Storytellers Macon and the Tubman Museum to host a night of stories. People in the community came together to discuss the impacts of the Tubman Museum on their lives.
“It happened at the Tubman” was the first event in the "Changing Up the Narratives!" series brought to you by Wesleyan's Equity Center. The Center is an extension of Wesleyan’s work on campus and its commitment to social and racial justice and equity.
Wesleyan’s very own Chief Diversity Officer and Dean for Equity and Inclusion, Tonya Parker and Wesleyan alumnae and West African Dance instructor, Pilar Lowden were speakers at the event. They both shared heartwarming stories of how the moments that changed their lives happened within the walls of the Tubman.
The Tubman Museum turned 40 this week and has always been a major contributor to educating, celebrating, and preserving history and culture. Wesleyan College has been around since before the Tubman Museum was founded, and has witnessed many of these life changing moments throughout history.
To continue celebrating equity in our town – and here at Wesleyan, make sure to join us for our continuing series of important discussions.
