Lakeside High School issued the following announcement on Aug. 17

Thank you to everyone for a great start to this school year. We are well on our way to making this the best year ever! As always, the Columbia County School District is committed to keeping all students and staff safe. In response to the remaining presence of COVID-19 in our community, additional extended mitigation measures, as outlined in the Return to School Plan, will be implemented in schools

  • Social Distancing
    • Classrooms, hallways, cafeterias
    • Plexiglass dividers in all school cafeterias
    • Limiting visitors in school buildings and classrooms
    • Avoiding assemblies and classroom group work
    • Limiting field trips
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing
    • Limiting use of locker rooms
    • Increased cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch and high-traffic areas
  • Face Coverings
    • Require the use of face coverings on school buses
    • Strongly encourage face coverings by students in crowded hallways and lines
  • Staying Home When Sick
    • Limiting time around others to no less than three feet for no more than 15 minutes
    • When symptoms of illness are evident, stay home and contact your healthcare provider
We are all in this together, and the district’s efforts are impacted by the actions of everyone in our community. Much of what schools cannot control is happening outside of our buildings and continued high levels of community spread can ultimately hinder efforts to keep students and staff safe. We ask that individuals be conscious of their actions outside of school and continue individual preventative steps to stop the spread, which include but are not limited to the following: good hygiene and handwashing; social distancing as much as possible; and staying away from others if you are experiencing any symptoms of illness.

Together, we can continue to provide a safe learning environment for all students.
