Today in Gainesville, Georgia, Congressman Andrew Clyde recognized Retired Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum as the inaugural recipient of the Special Georgian of the Ninth award. This initiative by Rep. Clyde aims to honor individuals, small businesses, or organizations within Georgia’s Ninth District that have made significant contributions to North Georgia.
“It’s a privilege to name Janis Mangum as our very first Special Georgian of the Ninth,” stated Clyde. He praised Mangum for her nearly four decades of service at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, including twelve years as Sheriff. Clyde highlighted her efforts in law enforcement and her work aiding North Carolinians after Hurricane Helene. “The Ninth District is blessed to have heroes like Janis Mangum, who continuously displays a true servant’s heart and unwavering devotion to our North Georgia community.”
Janis Mangum began her career in 1985 as a radio operator at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and rose through various roles over 19 years as a criminal investigator. She was elected Jackson County Sheriff in 2012 and received the Georgia Sheriff's Association's 2023 Sheriff of the Year award before retiring in December 2024.
