Today in Washington, D.C., Congressman Andrew Clyde of Georgia's 9th District reintroduced a resolution to commemorate January 22nd as the "Day of Tears." This date marks the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, and the resolution aims to memorialize unborn victims of abortion by lowering the U.S. flag to half-staff annually on this day.

"January 22nd, 1973 marks a dark anniversary for our nation," said Clyde. "For decades, more than 62 million innocent babies have been unjustly stripped of their first and most fundamental right — the right to life. All of these unborn souls were precious, worth saving, and made in the perfect image of God. We must now properly honor and mourn the loss of these unborn lives by recognizing the anniversary of the dreadful Roe decision as the Day of Tears."

Hannah Daniel, Director of Public Policy for Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), expressed support for establishing January 22 as a national day of mourning: “We, as a nation, should grieve the loss of 62 million precious, preborn lives and the lack of laws prohibiting these deaths from ever taking place. As a result, the ERLC supports establishing January 22 as the National Day of Tears. May this annual reminder make us pause and remember the great loss of preborn lives and stir us to action, working towards the day our nation exhibits a true culture of life.”

Marilyn Musgrave from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America also endorsed Clyde's resolution: “Abortion stands as one of the greatest human rights tragedies of our time, claiming the lives of over 62 million unborn children since the unjust Roe v. Wade decision. We thank Congressman Clyde for introducing this important resolution to honor the millions of human lives lost to abortion, stir the conscience of our nation and advocate protection of all children and their mothers under the law.”

The resolution has garnered support from twelve original cosponsors: Representatives Robert Aderholt (AL-04), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Lauren Boebert (CO-04), Josh Brecheen (OK-02), Randy Feenstra (IA-04), Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Trent Kelly (MS-01), Mary Miller (IL-15), Andy Ogles (TN-05), Keith Self (TX-03), Claudia Tenney (NY-24), and Randy Weber (TX-14).

Five organizations have expressed their backing for this initiative: Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Family Research Council, Heritage Action, Students for Life Action, and Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
