FOIA Request Sent to Seminole County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Seminole County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Georgia News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., for information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

In particular, we are interested in whether the counting process is manual or automated. If it is manual, we have asked for an estimate of the number of people who will be working on election night.

We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await their response and will continue to keep you updated with any developments.
