FOIA Request Sent to Calhoun County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Calhoun County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request was made by SW Georgia News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request sought specific information about the methods being used by the county to count votes in the upcoming election. Specifically, it asked for details about whether the counting process would be manual or automated. If manual counting was to be employed, SW Georgia News also requested an estimate of the number of people who would be working on election night.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at SW Georgia News believe that access to such information is essential for our work. We use this data not only for reporting purposes but also as a means of ensuring that democratic processes are conducted fairly and efficiently.

In making this request, we highlighted our role as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. We emphasized that access to public records is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. As such, we have requested a fee waiver for this information under our status as a media professional.

We eagerly await a response from the Calhoun County Election Department and will continue our efforts to keep the public informed about all aspects of local government operations.
