FOIA Request Sent to Early County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Early County Election Department on October 29, 2024. The request, made by SW Georgia News, sought detailed information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

In our quest for transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at SW Georgia News requested a list of methods that the department is using to count votes. If manual counting is involved, we asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As part of our professional responsibilities as a media organization, we believe access to public records is essential. This information allows us to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage, holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.

We also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information to the public.

The Early County Election Department has yet to respond to this FOIA request. We remain committed to providing up-to-date and factual information about local governmental affairs and will update our readers as soon as more information becomes available.
