FOIA Request Sent to Clay County Georgia Elections Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Clay County Georgia Elections Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Georgia News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., for information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

In our request, we specifically asked for details about whether the vote counting process is manual or automated. If it is manually counted, we requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As journalists, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as media professionals, we are eligible for a fee waiver when accessing these records.

We await a response from Clay County Georgia Elections and will continue to report on this matter as more information becomes available.
