Elbert County Student Wins Congressional Art Competition

In a recent event held at the Lyndon House Arts Center in Monroe, GA, U.S. Representative Mike Collins (GA-10) announced the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The winning entry, an oil on canvas titled Café, was created by Braelyn Bozarth, a senior at Elbert County Comprehensive High School. Braelyn's artwork impressed the judges and secured her first place in the competition.

Apart from Braelyn, several other talented artists were also recognized during the ceremony. Emmeline Niolon from Athens Academy clinched the second position, while Addalyn Perkins from Monroe Area High School secured the third spot. Additionally, Carrigan Haney, Carson Nelson, Siena Avolio, Skye Wilkie, and Sophie Reid received honorable mentions in various categories.

Expressing his admiration for the participants, Congressman Collins stated, "Congratulations to every student who participated in this year’s Congressional Art Competition." He further added, "Georgia’s 10th District is home to some of the most creative and talented artists." The congressman also mentioned the opportunity for Braelyn's painting to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year as part of a national exhibit.

A total of 72 high school students from the 10th Congressional District took part in the competition, showcasing their artistic talents and creativity. The event not only highlighted the artistic skills of the students but also provided them with a platform to gain recognition for their work.

The winning artworks from the competition are a testament to the vibrant artistic community present in the region, with each piece reflecting the unique talents and perspectives of the young artists. The recognition received by Braelyn and her fellow participants serves as a testament to the thriving art scene within the community and the dedication of these young individuals to their craft.
