Representative Gerald Greene of Cuthbert, known for his unwavering commitment to Georgia's education system, has been bestowed with the 2023 Friend of Education honor by the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE). The award, a part of GAE's Legislative Honor Roll, is a testament to Greene's advocacy for educators and his commitment to fostering excellence in Georgia's public education system.
In a press release issued by the Georgia General Assembly, Greene expressed his gratitude: "I am humbled and honored to be selected as a recipient of such a coveted honor. Having spent many years in Georgia’s education system, it is a priority of mine to continue to support Georgia’s educators and students through my endeavors in the Georgia House of Representatives, and I thank GAE President Lisa Morgan for this distinguished recognition."
In the same press release, Lisa Morgan, the President of GAE, praised Greene: "The 2023 Friend of Education award is the highest honor for an individual who has dedicated their career to promoting excellence in public education and unwavering support of educators. It was an honor and pleasure of mine to present this high honor to Rep. Greene. His dedication to fostering strong relationships and championing a career in public education is truly inspiring. We thank Rep. Greene for his many years of dedication to Georgia’s public education sector."
The GAE elaborated on its role stating that it represents teachers, administrators, and educational support professionals in Georgia's public schools. It advocates for their rights while addressing educational concerns at state legislature and agency levels.
According to another press release by the Georgia General Assembly, Greene represents District 154 which includes Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Early, Miller, Quitman, Randolph, Seminole counties along with parts of Dougherty County. He currently presides over the State Properties Committee as Chairman while also serving as Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development. Additionally, he holds memberships in multiple committees.
