Jared Showalter SIAC Pitcher, Player Of The Week | Savannah State University Athletics
Savannah State baseball swept the weekly Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Player of the Week awards, according to a press release from the conference office Monday evening.
Outfielder Jaden Oden was named the SIAC Player of the Week and Jared Showalter was named the SIAC Pitcher of the Week. Both had outstanding performances in Savannah State's three-game sweep of Edward Waters this past weekend.
Oden batted .500 over three games, going 6-for-12 at the plate with five RBI, five runs, a double, and a triple. In the field, Oden recorded 12 putouts, anchoring right field for the Tigers all weekend.
Showalter, the No. 1 pitcher in the SIAC, picked up his sixth win in the Tigers' opening game of Saturday's doubleheader.
He led the Tigers to an 8-2 win with 7.0 innings of work, allowing no runs on three this with two walks and seven strikeouts against 25 batters. Showalter leads SSU and the conference with a 1.42 ERA and a 6-1 record. He's ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division II.
Savannah State, 17-6, 13-4 SIAC, are currently in second place in the conference standings, trailing only Albany State (18-5, 16-1).
The Tigers head on the road this weekend for a three-game SIAC series against Miles College. First pitch in Friday's game in Fairfield, Alabama is set for 4 p.m.
