The Atlanta Tip Off Club announced today that Georgia Southern junior Terren Ward has been named the Georgia Women's College Player of the Year. It is the first time a student-athlete from Georgia Southern women's basketball has been honored by the organization.

Ward wrapped up her season this weekend as the Eagles appeared in the 13th Women's Basketball Invitational, marking the first postseason appearance for Georgia Southern in nearly 30 years. The Jesup, Ga., native scored 573 points this season, the most for an Eagle since 1979-80, and her 18.5 points per game scoring average led the Sun Belt Conference. Ward also averaged a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game and 2.0 steals per game, pacing the Eagles in both categories and ranking in the Top 5 in the Sun Belt as well. She earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors, the first Eagle to be named a first-team honoree since Georgia Southern joined the league in 2014, and Ward surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau on February 22 at South Alabama.

Ward joins Tookie Brown (2019) and Louis Graham (2008) as Georgia Southern student-athletes honored by the organization. Brown and Graham were named the Men's Georgia College Player of the Year in their respective years.

Current Georgia Southern head women's basketball coach Anita Howard earned the Georgia Women's Coach of the Year award in 2017 while at Columbus State.

Georgia Southern finished the year 21-10, the first 20-win season in 20 years for the Eagles. Ward will enter her senior season with the Eagles next year ranked 19th on the all-time scoring chart with 1,109 total points.
