Following the first 20-win season in 20 years for the program, Georgia Southern women's basketball has been selected to participate in the 13th Women's Basketball Invitational, which will take place March 17-19 in Lexington, Kentucky.

The tournament pits eight teams in three days of competition, to be held at the Clive M. Beck Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The Eagles' first-round opponent will be Northern Illinois (16-14) and the game will the the 7:30 p.m. contest on March 17.

This marks only the fourth time that Georgia Southern women's basketball will be a part of a national postseason event. The Eagles made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championships in 1993 and 1994 after winning the SoCon Tournament. The first national postseason appearance for Georgia Southern was in 1982, when the Eagles advanced out of the AIAW Region III Tournament to the AIAW Sweet 16.

Under fourth-year head coach Anita Howard, Georgia Southern compiled a 20-8 record in 2022-23, just the 11th 20-win season in school history and the first since the 2002-03 team that went 20-10. The Eagles have been among the nation's leaders in both rebounding and scoring offense all season long and finished tied for fourth in the Sun Belt Conference's regular season standings with a 12-6 mark, just one game out of first place. The Sun Belt wins and finish are also program bests for the program since joining the league in 2014.

All WBI games will be live streamed at www.watchwbi.com. Tickets are available at the door and can be purchased for $20 per day. For more information about the tournament, visit the WBI site at https://www.womensbasketballinvitational.com/
