Track Tigers Set New School Records At Jaguar Invite | Savannah State University

The Savannah State men's and women's indoor track and field teams saw school records beat and personal best set at the 2023 USA Jaguar Invitational.

Two new school records were set by members of each team. Freshman Aidan Holliman set a new record in the men's high jump event. Holliman cleared 2.01 meters, finishing in fourth place, to set the new school standard and a personal best in the event.

Holliman eclipsed the previous record of 1.97m set by Andrew Stevenson at the Clemson Opener on Dec. 2, 2005 when Savannah State competed in NCAA Division I.

Kayla Chance, one of the most decorated track stars in Savannah State's history, set yet another school record and personal best as well. Chance beat her own record in the women's 1 Mile, running a 5:23:00. She surpassed her last best in the event of 5:36.01, set on Feb. 28, 2022 at the Carolina Indoor Open.

Chance currently holds three schools records on the track and is a two-time Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Cross Country Champion.

Elsewhere on the track and field in Birmingham, several Tigers set new personal bests. Cameron Edwards—who doubles at Savannah State as a running back on the football team—set a new personal best in the triple jump with a 13.64m effort, finishing in 13th place.

Teauna Thomas set a new personal best in the 60m dash, running a 7.75 for a 13th place finish. Sadrea Mabry set a new personal best in the same event, running an 8.24. Mabry also earned a third place finish in the triple jump with an 11.61m effort.

Ravyn Cystrunk set a new personal best in the 200m run with a 25.66. Freshman Jeainna Bryant did the same in the 60 meter hurdles, finish with a career-fast 9.27.

Winfred Proter led the Tigers on the track in the 60m dash with a fifth place finishing, running a 6.85. He ran a 22.28 in the 200m to finish in the top 25.

The track Tigers conclude the indoor season—which is not sponsored by the SIAC—on Feb. 17 at the USC Open in Columbia, hosted by the University of South Carolina.

The 2023 outdoor season, an SIAC sponsored sport, opens on Feb. 25 with the Savannah State Eyeopener.
