Andrew College is pleased to announce that Linus Landahl has been awarded the Alouise K. and Albert W. Ray Scholarship for the academic year 2022-2023. Mrs. Kathy King, Andrew College presidential daughter, and trustee, has generously funded a unique scholarship for an academically promising freshman student. The scholarship will be awarded in January and will cover one semester of study at Andrew College and a unique, independent travel-study experience for the student. With this travel-study scholarship, Mrs. King hopes to strengthen the awardee, personally, academically, and intellectually: she asserts “Our perspective about most subjects is shaped by the range of our exposure. Travel increases that range of exposure and our comfort level with unfamiliar situations. Travel also facilitates the integration of abstract concepts to enhance critical thinking… My husband and I decided to include a travel provision in this scholarship because we had each experienced how travel broadened our perspective, range of interests, and self-confidence.” The awardee, Linus Landahl, is a member of the Andrew College Golf Team, and nominating professor Dr. Bob Kortbawi comments that Linus “has displayed rigor and drive toward his academics as well as his golf.” Linus, a Swedish citizen, plans to use his study-travel award to go to Minnesota during the summer of 2023 and research the history of Swedish immigration to the United States. He will return to Andrew College for Fall 2023 and share his research with presentations to the campus. Linus says, “I want to thank Mrs. Kathy King for the phenomenal opportunity and look forward to meeting her when I complete this journey.”
