Three days after a rare loss in Tiger Arena, Savannah State women's basketball returned to form with an 85-69 win over Fort Valley State on Saturday.

The win improved Savannah State's overall record to 10-3. The Lady Tigers extended their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) record to 6-2, to maintain a lead in the SIAC East Division.

Fort Valley State opened with a 4-0 run. But Savannah State soon found its legs. At the 7:42 mark, they opened a 6-0 run sparked by four good free-throws from Bria Gibbs.

Autumn Westmoreland sank two good free-throws at the 4:12 mark to start a 16-2 run for Savannah State. By the end of the opening quarter, Savannah State led 26-16 and never relinquished the lead again.

Down the stretch, Savannah State went up by as much as 23 points, overwhelming Fort Valley with some strong defense and stellar shooting.

From the charity strip, they improved on their dismal 48% rate against Lane the previous Wednesday to 83.3%, hitting 25-of-30 attempts. SSU held the lead for 34:12 minutes of the game and shot 45.5% from the field.

Savannah State finished with five players in double figures. Heard recorded her second double-double of the week with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Gibbs finished with 19 points. Ta'Quasia Lampkin scored 12 and grabbed 7 rebounds.

In her first game back after an injury, point guard Nyla Allen scored 10 points in the win. True freshman Amani Hamilton—out of Johnson High School in Savannah—put up a season-high 10 points, playing 11 minutes off the bench.
