Georgia Southern junior Terren Ward has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by league officials.

Ward became the first Eagle to score 40+ points in a contest since 1989 with her career-high 40 points in Saturday's 99-86 win over Arkansas State. The Jesup, Ga., native added six rebounds and a pair of assists in the victory, which was the 11th straight game in double figures to start the season for Ward. She joins GS Hall of Famer Phylette Blake (three times) and Junnie Hughley (once) as Eagles to record 40+ points in a game, and the last 40-point performance for an Eagle was Blake's 42 points vs. Florida International on January 21, 1989.

On Thursday, Ward had 18 points and nine rebounds against Texas State in the Eagles' Sun Belt opener. For the week, Ward averaged 29.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, shooting 55.3% (21-of-38) from the field and 46.7% (7-of-15) from three-point range.

This is the third Sun Belt Player of the Week honor for Ward, tying her with Alexis Brown for the most career Sun Belt women's basketball weekly awards. it is also the seventh weekly honor for the Eagles in the last four seasons under head coach Anita Howard.

Ward and the Eagles return to action on Thursday, traveling to Conway, S.C., for a 6 p.m. Sun Belt contest against Coastal Carolina.
