Eagles Top Century Mark For Second Straight Game, Down Agnes Scott 126-35

Georgia Southern women's basketball set a new single-game school record for steals in defeating Agnes Scott, 126-35, on Wednesday evening at Hanner Fieldhouse.

The Eagles (5-1) also topped the century mark for the second straight game, keeping the Scotties (0-7) winless on the young season.Georgia Southern opened the game on a 15-0 run and recorded 24 first-half steals in building a 66-14 lead at halftime. Le'Andrea Gillis' three-pointer with 1:25 left in the third quarter put the Eagles at the century mark, and Georgia Southern's 126 points scored finished as the second-most in a single game in program history, trailing only the 133 points scored against Carver on December 13 of last season.The Eagles finished the contest with 32 steals, breaking the program record of 28 set twice previously. It's tied for the most steals in a single game among Division I schools this season.Georgia Southern placed five players in double figures on the day, led by the tandem of Diamond Stokes and Lydia Freeman, who had 17 points apiece. Terren Ward notched her third double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Simone James added 13 points and Taya Gibson chipped in 12. All 14 Eagles who suited up for the contest scored at least two points in the contest. Constance Thomas delivered 13 assists, one shy of the single-game record for the Eagles as well.

Eagle of the GameFreeman was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field en route to her career-high 17 points. She also knocked down her first career three-pointer in the contest and added five rebounds.

Next UpGeorgia Southern breaks for final exams, then returns to action on Friday, December 9, hosting Chicago State for its annual Kids Day Field Trip Game. Game time is 11 a.m. at Hanner Fieldhouse and more than 2,000 elementary and middle school students are expected for the contest.
