Archbold recently partnered with Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) to implement a new training program that will help meet the needs of individuals interested in a career as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
Beginning January 2023, SRTC will provide coursework as well as clinical hours required for the Accelerated Nurse Assistant program. In addition to the CNA courses, this program includes Certified Medication Assistant training. SRTC will provide the required testing once the program is complete.
The program will take place over a five-week session. Upon completion, students will earn a technical certificate of credit (TCC). SRTC will offer two accelerated nurse assistant program sessions each semester enrolling 14 total students per session. Students that are selected for the five-week training program will be hired as Archbold employees while earning CNA credit hours.
“We often have applicants interested in becoming CNAs, but they can’t always afford a formal training program. And it’s often difficult for students to work and earn the income needed while attending school at the same time,” said Tina Bates, Archbold Director of Long-Term Care.
Though there are other CNA training programs available locally, the existing programs simply aren’t enough to keep up with the increasing demand for training a much-needed qualified CNA workforce in the South Georgia region.
“That’s why we decided to partner with SRTC to provide great hands-on training and financial compensation for students while they’re earning course credit that meets the needs of the State of Georgia’s existing requirements for Certified Nursing Assistants,” Bates said.
Participating students are eligible to receive $2,700 in Archbold scholarship funds to cover program tuition and fees as well as books and materials, scrubs, and testing fees. Students can also apply for federal and state financial aid through SRTC. Additionally, students will earn an hourly wage while completing coursework and clinical hours. All CNA requirements outlined by the State of Georgia will be followed to ensure students are well-trained and prepared to care for patients.
“The Accelerated Nurse Assistant partnership with Archbold Medical Center helps us achieve our mission of training our local workforce,” said SRTC President Jim Glass. “We are excited to help reduce the healthcare worker shortage by providing quality training at a faster pace.”
Archbold will screen all applicants following standard employment practices, including a face-to-face interview with program staff and the Archbold Human Resources department. The program start date will be January 10, 2023, and the deadline to apply for the program is November 18, 2022.
