President Blight celebrates 100 days in office, makes big announcement

Just over three months ago, Wesleyan College’s 26th President, Meaghan Blight set a goal to raise one million dollars for Wesleyan College during her first 100 days. We can now officially say that we have accomplished that goal.

Today is President Meaghan Blight’s 100th day in office, and we are pleased to announce that together, the college has raised $2,213,161 million on behalf of Meaghan’s Million Dollar Match campaign! With the participation of 190 donors; including full participation by the Wesleyan Board of Trustees, we truly could not have done it without you! The Wesleyan community thanks you for your generous contributions, dedication, and efforts toward accelerating equality for women.

“This unbelievable showing of support has provided funds to deepen and reach into new international markets, creating global opportunities for our students. It has increased our capacity to support and serve our community through new student initiatives and retention. It has provided start-up funds for a new CEO (Creating Equal Opportunity) institute, to accelerate our students’ leadership trajectory with an end goal of making meaningful strides toward gender parity, and ultimately, accelerating equality for women.”  - President Meaghan Blight

Working Warrior program

To give back to the Macon community, President Blight also announced the start of a brand new community initiative, the Working Warriors program, serving as an opportunity for two local women to receive a full scholarship to continue or start the journey towards furthering their education.

“This new program is aimed to provide flexible learning options for women who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, who come from marginalized backgrounds, or who simply want to reskill and retool to improve their lives and the lives of their families.” - President Meaghan Blight

The Working Warriors program will provide two full scholarships for local women. President Blight says Wesleyan will soon engage with our community partners to help identify these recipients.

We could not have done it without our amazing community and we look forward to seeing how much further we can go in the coming days, months, and years.
