The Andrew College Athletic Department and the Men's Basketball team added Matthew Shonder as Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach this summer, bringing the Berwyn, IL native to Cuthbert from Reinhardt University, where he was Graduate Assistant Coach/Assistant Reserve Coach, helping the Eagles to a 20-11 record last season.
Previous to Reinhardt, Shonder was the Student Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL under Ryan Marks during the 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 seasons. With Shonder, the Fighting Saints made an appearance in the 1st Round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Conference Tournament falling to Trinity International. Shonder helped with the day-to-day operations of the team, film, gameday, practice, and scheduling.
Prior to St. Francis (IL), Shonder coached three seasons as Student Manager at Morton College in Cicero, IL during the 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 seasons under Aaron Rolle. During the 2016-2017 season, Shonder was the videographer for the team under Brandon Watkins, now Assistant Coach at Bowling Green, before being promoted to Student Manager. Watkins has high regards for Shonder's work ethic. While at Morton College, Shonder was a part of a team that won the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Championships (2017-2018, 2018-2019), NJCAA Div. II Region IV Regional Runners-Up (2017-2018), NJCAA Div. II Region IV Regional Championship (2018-2019), and NJCAA Men's Div. II Basketball Championship National Tournament Qualifier (2018-2019).
Shonder serves as an Assistant Player Development/Skills Coach with Stanley Boateng Workouts (2019), and is an investor in Authentic Basketball (2020), a skill development service for basketball players of all levels through a variety of individual and group workouts, as well as serving as the Special Assistant Coach for Team Young & Reckless, a Chicago-based AAU team, under the direction of Stanley Boateng and Justin Brim.
Shonder holds an Associate Degree in Arts from Morton College, a Bachelor Degree in History with a focus on European History from the University of St. Francis, and Master of Science in Sports Administration and Leadership Degree from Reinhardt University, and a USA Basketball Gold License.
