Grady County Fire Rescue
Position: Firefighter
Job Summary:
- This position is responsible for assisting with fire suppression and rescue duties and maintaining fire equipment and facilities. Mental stress and pressure of position is frequent.
- Respond to emergency calls and fire alarms.
- Selecting appropriate equipment to use depending on the type of situation
- Perform medical first response
- Perform fire suppression and rescue
- Conduct fire hose and hydrant maintenance
- Checks, cleans, and maintains fire house, fire apparatus, and fire equipment
- Conducts pre-fire planning for local businesses
- Complete fire and rescue reports
- Drives and operates firefighting vehicles and equipment as certified
- Performs related duties and other duties may be assigned
- Protect property from water and smoke by use of waterproof salvage covers and smoke ejectors
- Communicate with superior during fire by portable two-way radio
- Continue education
- Knowledge of search and rescue techniques
- Knowledge of fire alarm and hydrant maintenance and operation
- Knowledge of fire equipment maintenance and operation
- Knowledge of street and physical layout of the County & Cities
- Knowledge of basic vehicular extraction techniques
- Knowledge of fire prevention and safety techniques
- Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association Standards
- Skill in performing in stressful and life-threatening situations
- Skill in basic computer operations Excel & Words
- Skill in operating basic medical equipment and fire equipment, vehicles, and apparatuses
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Communicate courteously and effectively to co-workers and to the public
- The work is typically performed while standing, stopping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee must frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguished between shades of color, utilizes a sense of smell, and fights fire in dangerous environment.
- The environmental working conditions of this position will include frequent exposure to wet surroundings, cluttered floor area, poor ventilation, vibrations, dust or fumes working inside and outside. There is also occasional exposure to working around hazardous machinery, working at night, working at considerable heights, electric hazards, loud noises, low noise, grease/dirt/dust, and high/low temperatures.
- Should have at least 1 years’ experience in firefighting
- Be certified under the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Act
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License
- Must be Trained to Firefighter 1 or greater
