18

Town of Bluffton issued the following announcement on Sept. 16

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 205 is continuing to sell memorial bricks for Bluffton Veterans Memorial, located in the Buckwalter Place Park. Brick orders need to be submitted by September 25 to be produced and installed by November 11, Veterans Day.

The cost for a memorial brick is $100 per brick. Each brick allows for three lines of verbiage. Each line can include 14 characters which include spaces. The brick is 4-by-8-inches. The person memorialized does not have to be a veteran. Payment and requests for bricks need to be sent to Bluffton ALA Veterans’ Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1933, Bluffton, SC, 29910. For more information, please contact Kay Ranta, Auxiliary Unit chaplain, at 843.757.7918. Applications and further information are available via www.alpost205.org.

The unit will continue to sell bricks year around as space allows.

The Buckwalter Park Place, is a more than 1.5-acre site, comprised of open space, a playground and the Bluffton Veterans Memorial. It is located near the Don Ryan Center for Innovation and St. Joseph’s/Candler Medical Campus.

The Town and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 205 partnered to create this park and memorial nearly three years ago so residents would have a specific place in Bluffton which recognized the sacrifice and service of military veterans. This park is also a venue for patriotic ceremonies and events.

The memorial section of the park is comprised of a bricked portion in the corner, featuring an American flag and a tabby wall with each of the six military branch seals. Those seals include Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine.
