issued the following announcement on Aug. 2
COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the US as well as Brooks County. Recently, the Georgia Department of Public Health identified Brooks County as a "high transmission county." With millions still unvaccinated across the United States and a highly contagious delta variant spreading rapidly, community members must take the steps necessary to protect yourself, your family, and the community.
The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, highly effective, and readily available in and around Brooks County. Hundreds of thousands of South Georgia residents have already stepped up to take the vaccine. According to DPH, in Brooks County and its bordering Georgia counties alone, more than 138,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered as of July 28.
If you are a resident of Brooks County and have not received the vaccine, you can do so at the Brooks County Health Department by appointment. To schedule an appointment, call 229-263-7585.
Opportunities for vaccination are also available in Thomasville and Valdosta. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville offers the vaccine at Archbold Corporate Care. Appointments at Corporate Care must be made by calling 1-229-584-SHOT (7468). Vaccines are also available in Valdosta at South Georgia Medical Center. Appointments at SGMC must be made by calling 229-433-1068.
Another way to protect those around you is getting tested for COVID-19 if you begin to have symptoms or have been in close contact with someone with the virus. COVID-19 tests are available at the Brooks County Health Department, with an appointment. Tests are available Monday through Friday and community members are asked to self-register for the test by visiting covid19@dph.ga.gov.
Drive-Thru testing is also available at CVS and Walgreens in Thomasville and Valdosta. An appointment is required at both.
Archbold Memorial Hospital also offers COVID-19 testing by appointment. A referral from a healthcare provider is required for testing at Archbold.
SGMC Urgent Care in Valdosta offers COVID-19 testing without appointment or referral, for more information call 229-433-8200.
