Congressman Andrew Clyde has criticized Senator Raphael Warnock for spreading misinformation regarding the closure of Social Security Administration (SSA) offices in Georgia. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) confirmed that no SSA field sites in Georgia are closing.
“Senator Warnock has peddled lies and fearmongered Georgia seniors long enough,” said Clyde. He accused Warnock of using potential lease savings identified by DOGE to score political points, stating, “Scaring Americans — in this case, seniors — to distort the Administration’s work to expose and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse is irresponsible and reeks of desperation.”
Clyde urged Warnock to apologize to Georgia seniors following DOGE’s confirmation that SSA field sites remain open. “Anything less would continue to be utterly irresponsible,” he added.
The controversy began on February 28th when Senator Warnock claimed that the Trump Administration announced closures of five SSA offices in Georgia, including one in Clyde’s district. Despite the Gainesville SSA Office being operational, Warnock maintained his stance on social media.
DOGE refuted these claims: “This post is inaccurate. @SocialSecurity is not closing any field sites in Georgia or elsewhere.” They clarified that only five permanent remote hearing sites within field sites were closed due to a shift towards virtual hearings.
